House and Home Magazine
The fall season is just around the corner and while some mourn the loss of summer, I embrace this spectacular season!
Today I wanted to share some easy tips on adding touches of fall into your home.
My motto is always “shop the house first” and this season is no exception. Changing out a few simple elements can make all the difference in the look and feel of your spaces; no matter the season.
This can be as simple as adding a chunky wool throw or pillow. Adding texture is so integral in design and prevents a room from becoming too “flat” and one dimensional. During the fall months is no exception.
Think cable throws, wool, fur, cashmere, tapestries etc.

Add Warmth with Autumnal Colors
Adding some warm, fall colors around your home is one of the easiest things you can do. This can be achieved with drapery changes, throws, or even placing earth toned objects like pottery around your spaces.
Another easy fix?
Change your pillow covers…it can instantly change a room for the season.
Scrumptious velvet, fake fur, animal prints, cable knits.
Even kilim fabrics with warm, rich tones are always great options.
Use down inserts in your pillows. If you haven’t invested in them I highly recommend it;)
You can find inexpensive inserts at Ikea, Homegoods as well as many discount stores. They also provide a good “karate chop” look;) Try the clearance sections…even if the pillow cover is ugly, see if there is a down insert!
Another way to add warmth is by swapping out some Art with muted autumnal tones. This can change the feel of a room instantly!
There are free downloads available online through blogs and other sites.
Print them out and pop in an existing frame. You can also find some great looking art thrifting;)

Rich Cozy Fabrics
The above image via Traditional Home executes the use of these fabrics well.
Notice the warm, deep rust pillow covers…
paisley throw at the foot of the bed… bamboo stool with tapestry cushion…
deep muted tones in the artwork above the bed…
All of these enticing elements make this room a fall feast for the eyes;) Don’t you think?

Incorporating natural elements in your home during this season is a no brainer;) Many things in nature have texture as well.
Use your own backyard as your store! Go on a hunt and make it a game with the kids;)!
When leaves start to change, clip some branches and put them in a glass vessel (I love this)! You might even have the coveted birch wood, pinecones, wheat or acorns around your yard. Take a look!
The market is also a great resource for fall items.
Pick up a bunch or two of autumnal flowers along with a couple of gourds, pumpkins, pomegranates, kale, and nuts in the produce section!
Try finding pumpkins and gourds in softer colors than the usual bright orange etc. It will feel less “Halloween” and more “Autumnal”;)
Also? Check your kitchen cabinets for wooden bowls and cutting boards that are usually stored away in a cabinet.
The rich wood tones pair perfectly with the above natural elements.
My family and I are very sensitive to most candles. However, I love the smell and feel a candle brings to a space.
They evoke the feelings of being cozy, safe and warm. All things you want during fall!
Through trial and error, I found a few candles that do not give me or my family headaches.
Illume candles are now my go to brand (not a paid sponsor;)
No matter what scent I burn it is clean smelling and not overpowering.
Below is what I am currently burning and love it! It is reminiscent of taking a hike with the clean smells of fall all around. You can find these delicious smelling candles here.
The reed diffusers are just as scrumptious smelling and last a long time;)
I hope you enjoyed my fall decor tips! Try adding a few of these elements in your home as you welcome in the fall season. Your family and friends will love it:)
Have a great week friends!
